Let me tell you… I am always stressing out about something – usually something completely insignificant. But because stressing out is not good I have really been trying different things to help me de-stress.
I am no health-care professional but I do have a few tips that help me de-stress and maybe they can help you too!
Tip #1: Take a Deep Breath
Before you go on to any of the other tips it important that you take a second to think and take a deep breath. Try to focus solely on your breathing – not what is stressing you out!
Now we move on to the other steps…
Tip #2: Meditation
Try something that will calm you down, like meditation or yoga! Meditation has been proven to shrink the amygdala, the amygdala is where your fight or flight response takes place and therefore what causes stress in your brain. So the shrinking is good!
If you are new to meditation try out the app: Headspace. The app starts off with 10 free 3-minute meditation sessions that will help to relax your brain and body. Once those ten sessions are done you can buy monthly packages such as packages on stress or anxiety.
I have been using Headspace for a few months and have really seen the benefit! I think it is worth checking out 🙂
Tip #3: Yoga
Yoga, much like meditation, is a way to take your mind off something that is stressing you out and is also shown to help shrink the amygdala. Yoga is a great opportunity to focus on your breathing and stretching and ultimately focus on yourself. Sometimes we need moments like these – to refocus.
I was reached out to by the group that created the Best Yoga Mat Guide on Reviews.com. They informed me that their review guide was a great way for new yogis to be confident and comfortable on their yoga mat purchases, and I could not agree more! They surveyed over 100 yoga professionals and did plenty of research to determine the best yoga mats. They even categorized the mats so you can find the best yoga mat for your needs, whether it be budget friendly mats or eco-friendly and more!
Check them out here:
I wish I had stumbled across this guide before I purchased my mat! This is a great way to hear from professionals what the best mat is and be confident in your purchase. Check this guide out if you are on the lookout to buy a mat!
Tip #4: Do something you enjoy
Try to turn off your phone, get off the internet and all the pressures it may come with and focus on what you enjoy. This may be drawing, coloring, playing an instrument, listening to music, going for a walk, reading, baking etc.
The goal really is to just give yourself a little ‘me time’. Focus on yourself and what makes you feel good and happy and try to bring your focus back on to yourself rather than whatever you are stressing out about. And usually whatever you enjoy- that does not involve the internet- will relax you naturally!
I hope these tips were helpful and gave you a little help next time you are stressing out about something! And don’t forget to check out Review.com’s guide for the Best Yoga Mat. The link is above!
